Nowadays conventional grocery products are the end result of a long process of de-naturing, having been grown with chemicals, processed with chemicals, and preserved with more chemicals. These bleaches, anti-caking agents, dyes and preservatives are designed to make the foods more attractive and to last longer on shelves, yet often end up giving us “edible, food-like substances” with little or no taste or nutritional value.

By contrast, natural foods are those grown and produced with as little interference as possible. That means minimal processing and no artificial additives so that, when you find them on our shelves, they are as close to their original state as possible. For this reason, Marlene’s Market & Deli carries whole grain breads and cereals, plant-based sweeteners, non-sulfured and non-fumigated dried fruits and nuts and much more, passing the added nutritional content on to you.

We look for organically grown products whenever possible and you can rest assured that every product on our shelves has been evaluated by our buyers for its purity, nutrition and impact on the environment. Our grocery department is divided into these categories:
