The Path of Yeast Resistance
with Roby Mitchell, MD

After leaving a promising career in allopathic medicine, Dr. Roby Mitchell embarked on the study of natural medicine, eventually developing the hypothesis that yeast overgrowth is central to the causation of most chronic diseases. This hypothesis illuminates why so many inflammation-related diseases are made better or worse depending on the glycemic index of the diet and explains why women are more susceptible to these diseases than men. Since yeast are opportunistic organisms that flourish as immune function declines, these diseases are seen more as people age. Mitchell’s hypothesis is bearing out by researchers at Mayo Clinic, who have discovered that sinusitis, an inflammatory disease, is caused by yeast 96% of the time. Join us for this important new talk.

Plant Medicine: a new series on Native Wisdom
with Elder Warren Gohl

Part One: Digestion

Traditionally, medicine and botany were twin children of Mother Earth, offering themselves to humankind. And though plant medicine and science medicine have lost their common tongue, the ancient voice of healing is stirring again among earth's children. All around us, the language of plant medicine healing is emerging, making it a very rich world indeed. When digestive disturbances occur, most people make a trip to the local drug store for an ‘over the counter’ remedy, the choices for which are numerous. Unfortunately, relief from aggravating digestive issues is usually insufficient or, at best, temporary. If unattended, short-term (acute) digestive problems can lead to chronic problems that take on a life of their own. Aside from being physically discomforting, digestive issues may lead  to more serious conditions involving increased healthcare, unwarranted expense, and  a significant  diminishing of one's quality of life. Warren Gohl is a Certified Medical Herbalist and is current president of the Washington State Chapter of the American Herbalist Guild. The pursuit of plant medicine to help the body heal itself is Warren's overwhelming passion. He tastes any plant medicine he can and likens it to “shaking hands with Nature.” Warren is also an officer of the Pierce County Counselor's Association; serves as Mental Health Court Coordinator for the Tacoma Municipal Court, and is a chaplain of the Inter Tribal Warriors Society, a Native American veteran's support organization.
