The Ancient Egyptians loved licorice for several reasons including soothing upset stomachs, relieving stress and helping with minor skin problems. Licorice is filled with so many beneficial qualities, but I drink this tea simply because it is delicious and satisfying.
6-7 c water
1⁄4 c licorice root, broken into pieces
2 inches fresh ginger, thinly sliced
honey, if desired
Pour about 6 or 7 cups of water in a small pot. Add the licorice root and fresh ginger. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 7-10 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and allow to steep for a few minutes. Serve in individual cups through a strainer. Licorice is naturally sweet, but for extra sweetness add a little honey if desired.
