Sandra and Steve Wooff are British dairy farmers who fell in love with the American countryside in 2012 during a cross county motorcycle tour. Soon after, they moved to the United States to put their 40 cumulative years of organic and conventional dairy farming knowledge into the design their own farm.
Today, Redcoat Goats Dairy Farm is located on a 13-acre property on the Olympic Peninsula between Sequim and Port Angeles, with fine views of The Olympic Mountains to the South and The Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island to the North.
Their herd consists mainly of La Mancha and Mini-Manchas,. La Mancha goats were chosen for the affectionate character synonymous with the breed and the fantastic taste of their milk. La Manchas originate and have been developed in America. The Mini-Manchas are a cross between La Mancha and Nigerian Dwarf goats. They are a smaller, more pet-sized variety with a higher butter-fat content in the milk, which adds to the flavor.
Goat milk is widely known as less allergenic and quicker and easier to digest than cow milk, not containing the complex proteins that stimulate an allergic reaction. It does not produce mucus and so does not suppress the immune system. Most lactose intolerant people have found they can tolerate goat milk and goat milk products.
The Wooffs strongly believe in raw milk, and the benefits of this natural, unprocessed ‘perfect’ food. There are enzymes present in raw milk which contribute towards its digestibility which are destroyed by heat processing. Raw goat milk is naturally more homogenized than cow milk and is the only milk that can be used to raise any mammal from birth!
The farm has been a progressive build, but in in December of 2019, they were Grade “A” licensed by WSDA are able to sell organic milk! Try some soon.
