My home apothecary is one that I have built over the years as my own understanding of my daily health and wellness has evolved. I tend to think about what my family goes through – the inevitable cuts and scrapes, sore and achy muscles and bumps and bruises that accompany a life well lived. What I have built at home reflects the life we live rather than a list of things that someone else identifies as a ‘must have’. I support our overall environment of well-being with essential oils and reach for practical topical products when we need them most.
Step 1: Consider What You Really Need As you explore the idea of building your own apothecary at home, think first about what you need. Do you have a cupboard full of herbs, potions, pills and salves to take care of what ails you and your family most? Alternatively, do you have a bunch of items that you thought would deliver a solution, but instead you have mistakenly created more of a complicated mess at home? Most everyday solutions can be found in fewer products and ingredients than you likely imagined when you started collecting remedies.
Step 2:
Build Your List The intention behind this list is to make you think about your own home apothecary a bit differently. Have you considered this item as it applies to your daily life? Does this item function as a foundation in developing your own combinations that serve you on the path of well-being? In addition, can you use this to ensure that you have what you need when you need it most? All of the products below include stellar botanicals that are ideally suited for a broad application of ailments:
Lavender
Lavender has relaxing and uplifting qualities that leave users with a sense of calm and balance, making it one of today’s most popular scents. Lavender is a gentle, multi-purpose herb and can be combined with CBD or other herbs. It is typically one of the most used ingredients.
Broad-spectrum CBD
Broad-spectrum CBD products work within the endocannabinoid system to support overall wellness. Topical applications, like a soothing salve or cooling roll-on, can take the guesswork out of body care. It is also useful after long days of standing or heavy workouts.
Chamomile
A calming and soothing herb, chamomile is an ingredient in skin care creams and lotions, relaxing bath blends and shampoos and conditioners for light-colored hair. Its usage is suitable in teas, tonics, tinctures and topical preparations.
